What's On Your Nightstand - December

What's On Your Nightstand It's that time again! I haven't read much this month and I probably won't be reading much next month. As much as I want to finish the 2010 challenges, I find myself spending more time on learning Japanese, cleaning, and trying to finish a quilt before Christmas. Most of my reading has been sidelined...

So, this month I'm just going to continue working on my reading challenges. My number one priority is the Jane Austen challenge. I am slowly reading through Sense & Sensibility and am enjoying it, despite how long I'm taking to read it. Then I'll be reading a S&S sequel - The Third Sister, by Julia Barrett. After that, I'll be reading either Persuasion or Northanger Abbey.

If I read much more than that, I will be surprised. My reading goes in waves and I guess this is just a down time for me. As a plus, my Japanese studies have really taken off and I'm spending between one and two hours a day studying!

Oh wow! Learning Japanese is very impressive! That's really cool. And this time of year it IS hard to get in "good reading time." I'm finding myself kinda tiring out here as well. Christmas feelings are catching up with me here and it's snowing today so I want to be outdoors! =D

Good luck on that quilt!

Japanese studies? Wow- that must be interesting and challenging!

Happy reading, no matter how much it ends up being!

my reading has also slowed down. Not because I am doing anything as awesome as learning another language but because my other hobby, crocheting, has taken over. I am making a gift for Christmas and it must be done by Dec 17. Let me know what you think of S&S. I know it would take me a long time to read but I have wanted to for some time.
Happy Thanksgiving!

Cassandra,

"Sense and Sensibility?" I have heard that it's a good book, but I have not attempted to read it. I think I own one Jane Austin book, but I forgot the title. Isn't that pittiful?

My reading has gone, "off the grid," in other words, I have stopped trying to "keep-up" with reading specific books. Now, I am just "dabbling" again which probably isn't a good thing, but it's what I do.

I picked-up a book from my shelf today entitled, "Beautiful Girlhood" and read the first 4 chapters. It's pretty interesting. :)

Anyway, take care dear friend.

Blessings,

-Lady Rose

Way to go with your Japanese studies! I think it's valuable to take a look at our lives every so often and realize that even if we didn't complete all we intended to complete in a year's time, by God's grace we've managed to do all sorts of things we never intended (but that God designed for us to do.)

Konnichiwa! :)

I really need to read more Jane Austen, I hope to do that soon.

I wonder if I would actually do it, if I were in a Jane Austen challenge... I really need to... *sigh*

I love that you're learning Japanese - on your own, or are you taking classes? I read Persuasion about a year ago and enjoyed it, after I got into the "flow" of Jane Austen ...

I have read all of Jane Austen's completed works except for Sense and Sensibility! I'm surprised; I guess I put it off because I have watched the movie (the one with Emma Thompson) several times.

Persuasion and Northanger Abbey are my favorites!
